Kataza being monitored after fight with other male baboon

The City of Cape Town can confirm that the adult male baboon colloquially referred to as Kataza, is being monitored after a fight with another male baboon from Tokai. The SPCA did an assessment earlier today, 10 October 2020, and no intervention is needed at this point in time. Read more below.
 

Kataza who was recently relocated from Kommetjie to Tokai, is a young male. Fighting between male baboons often occurs. Kataza still bears a scar on his face from a fight he had with another male baboon while he was with the Slangkop Troop in Kommetjie.
 
This is normal behaviour as baboons are wild animals and not domesticated pets.
 
The SPCA did an assessment and at this point in time no intervention is needed. He is being monitored and will be assessed as needed.
 
Being accepted into a new troop can take weeks to months as Kataza needs to interact with other baboons in his own time.
 
The City kindly requests the public to please not interfere, feed, or harass the animal.
